This, the first painting in the series, was completed in Autumn 1997. It looks south-westerly toward the Westgate Bridge, a powerful symbol of endeavour and technology on our horizon. Through the middle ground sweeps the state's rail links to the nation, whilst the foreground hints at a peaceful terraced suburbia. A solitary coastal freighter sits peacefully in Swanston Dock and modern container cranes fill the skyline. Over the entire scene presides a sky that is the very essence of change.
